Foreign Language Typesetting and Desktop Publishing (DTP)

Our foreign language typesetting service customizes the text and design of a document to meet the specific requirements of the target language, while taking into account the specific typographical norms of the target country. After a text has been translated, our publishing team edits and optimizes the text so that the overall impression of the original document remains the same. The layout is precisely adjusted to match the customs and the reading habits of the target country.

Also definitive is the careful selection of the right font size, line spacing, and character spacing through the use of high quality character sets. We have a wide variety of high quality fonts and have experience with Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese characters. Strict attention to detail and precise typography are essential in creating a new print document in the target language that still maintains the communicative effect of the original.

When different character sets (i.e. Japanese and Latin characters) exist within the same document, adjustments must be made in order to create homogenous typesetting. When the name of a European company is used in a Japanese brochure, for example, it maintains the original character set - a foreign language typesetter then chooses a Japanese character set that matches.

If the translated text is longer or shorter than the original, adjustments to the layout will have to be made. Charts and captions must often be completely redesigned, as text is often read or viewed differently in the target language. Adjustments like these are always made in close collaboration with our clients.

We work with a variety of commercial DTP programs such as QuarkXpress, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, allowing us to consistently meet high quality standards.
